Closing Schools In New York

I found this article in The New York times, and I though that it was important to know this information because students are getting less education in some parts of the United States than others.

In New York the Education Department is planing to close 22 schools, including 15 that were part of similar litigation last year by the union and the N.A.A.C.P.

If they close all these schools they are going to affect the education of the students. I think that it’s not neccesary  to close schools because the youth need more education. As a result, some of then are not going to school because they want to work or they feel like they don’t get the help that they need or that they want.

Therefore, the education department should stop closing schools and cutting  teachers. Closing schools means the city is  ignoring an agreement reached based on last year’s legislation to help the schools it was then trying to close by offering them additional staff and services, primarily for special education and immigrant students.

My Visit at Acalanes High School

My visit at Acalanes High School was great. I need to say that the schools is nice. When I was there, I felt wonderful because that school is one of the best public schools in the Bay Area. The students and the teachers are wonderful people and I felt happy to know that the students that attend Acalanes have a very good education.

Acalanes High School is a public school but in a rich neighborhood. The parents of the students have a club where they can organize activities to gain money to the school.

The parents collect money for teachers, programs, and other things the students need for their learning.  For example, in every English class, every student has his/her own iPads with all the books they can read and take notes at the same time. The parents also get money for programs to give students extra help. They also raise money so the school can offer extra classes, such as Psychology, AP Biology, Biotech, Art, Music, Orchestra, Auto Tech, and Design and Fabrication (a class in which they use wood, plastic and they design jewelry).

Joseph Schottland, a teacher at Acalanes, said ” This school is like a family. It is large enough to offer classes and extra-curricular activities, but is a small school,  and what I like the most is that every teacher knows every student on the campus.”

He also said that he would actually want the students to go out in field trips and explore the Bay Area, but there is not enough money for that.

Acalanes High School gets the same help from the government like other schools in California. But Acalanes has enough money to pay all the extra teachers to help the students, and they also pay for four counselors and three administrators.

Fewer teachers, less education

I was reading this information in EYEWITNESS NEWS and I thought it was interesting because I think that the financial help that schools get from the government is important to everybody because they want the best education for their children. The story showed that a lot of school districts have the same financial problems. They are cutting many teachers because the state and the schools districts don’t give the schools enough money to cover the teachers’ salaries.

Some students are getting low scores testing because their teachers don’t have enough time to help every student in a class. In some schools,  they have to cut at least four to five teachers.

I think that having more students in a class will really hurt students. For example, I have a class that has 28 students who are all working on different projects. This class would be a lot better if it was just 15 students so the teacher could come help all the students every class period.

Trying To Improve Hispanic Education

I thought the article in U.S. New Education  was interesting because in the United States there are many undocumented Hispanic  people who want to succeed in life and become an important, helpful person in the community, but they can’t go to college because they don’t qualify for financial aid.

The article explains that on May 2, the White House called to improve Hispanic education. President Obama has made a point to improve Latino education. He thinks that if Latinos in the United States have papers, they will have a higher chance to graduate from college. Now, almost  half of Latinos are not graduating from high school.

The article also says that the government has also set aside $4 billion for school improvement grants. Many of these schools are in Latino communities.

The Obama administration said that they are going to provide more help to poor neighborhoods, giving $30 million this year to provide high poverty communities good education.

I think that President Obama is doing a good job trying to help Hispanics with their education. When I read the article, it made me happy to see some of his programs. If my friends who don’t have their papers could get them, they would succeed in life and they would help other people in America.

Schools Activities Are Being Cut Because There Is Not Enough Money

Resources and funding are given to schools, for all the needs of students but the government is not giving it to  all. 4.28 % of children need a high quality physical education, so the government will ensure the requirement to provide PE in all maintained. Schools are retained and we will provide new support to encourage a much students to take up of competitive team sports.

The government can help the education of students by giving schools more money. Students are restricting  themselves to learn all the thing that the teachers teach them, because there are too many  students in a class. Rich and poor schools get the same financial help from the government, but a rich school gets more money because the parents pay a lot of money for their children to receive a good education.

School Cuts

In many schools of the United States the scores of the SAT in science and math are getting lower because the schools are getting less money for what students need in classes.

The budget cuts are much more painful and will cause more programs cuts in poor districts that rely more heavily on state funding. “The average from 13.5 percent to 17.5 percent of the funds they received from the state in 2010-11.” http://www.pennilive.com/.

The cuts and the education of the students is getting worse because the government is giving more money to other corporations, for example the government is giving $10.00 to wars and $1.00 to schools.

This affects the less fortunate districts, because they need to cut programs. For example, the early childhood program, this program makes a real different in the lives of students.

Rich and poor schools get the same financial help from the governments.

I think that every student in the United States need to have a good education because everyone has the right to better themselves and accomplish their major goals in life. All the information that you saw in this post was written by Anthony Cody in Education Week Teacher.

A rich school gets more money because the parents pay a lot of money for their children to have a good education.

With all the money that rich schools get from the parents, they pay to hire more teachers and offer more programs for the students to get more help.

A school helps students prepare themselves for the future and for their future career. For example, rich schools pay for programs such as art, choral music, and technology in the classrooms. They also hire additional teachers for upper grades. Some rich schools can raise each year $450,000, or more money just from parents.

Who goes to rich schools and who goes to  poor schools?  Well, in Acalanes High School, in 2009-10 there were 1,371 students on the campus. There were 72.1% white, 9.3% Asian , 9.0% two or more races, 7.5% Hispanic or Latinos, 1.0% Filipino, 0.6% Black or African-American, 0.3% None Reported,  0.1%American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander. This statistics show that as the percentage of white people going to a rich school is higher than black people or any other race going to a rich school.

I’m Planning To Go To A Rich School

I’m  planning to go to a rich school,  Acalanes High School. I’m thinking of going to give a  survey to students and see the different opinions of a poor schools and a rich school and how the education is different. In that school I hope everything would be okay. I’m excited because this is the project that is the most important to me because it determines whether I graduate or not. I think that go to another school is interesting, and I can learn other things of students and teachers from a rich school. I’m sure that this visit to Acalanes High School it would be helpful for my senior project.
